Energy efficiency requirements worldwide

Electric motors are the single biggest consumer of electricity and account for about 45% of global power consumption. As huge savings can be achieved by using higher efficiency motors, several countries have introduced energy saving programs to specify mandatory efficiency levels for motors.

June 16, 2011 marks a major milestone for European Union efforts to save energy. On that day, the new EU MEPS (Minimum Efficiency Performance Standard) IE2 efficiency level requirements became effective.
